TPC Sawgrass - THE PLAYERS Stadium Course
About
The world renowned Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass is the first course of its kind. Built with the intention of being home to THE PLAYERS, it was created for spectators. It was designed as the first stadium-style golf course, offering fans clear and stunning views. The challenging layout is routed so that no two consecutive holes ever play in the same direction. Traditional Scottish links-style bunkers, sandy waste areas, and water hazards that come into play on every hole make the Stadium Course even more interesting. There are also hundreds of oaks, pines, and palms throughout the course. One of the most widely known, and feared, holes in golf is No. 17, notorious for its treacherous island green.

Pick another one for your Bucket.
Most horrible set up to enjoy this beautiful course. They have cart path only rule year round (even in this Florida heat) and maintain 6" inch rough for the public. Twice as long than pros play and greens were grainy and inconsistent. Took a group of 20 out on last Sunday and no one enjoyed. Two people left after just 7 holes with possible heat stroke. I can't believe they insist on cart path only when the course was dry and firm. Continually had to bring a number of clubs all the way across the fairway - then you could barely advance the ball - if you even found it in the rough.
It's a shame, as this is on so many players bucket list - and rightly so. The course is amazing, it's just not a User Friendly atmosphere. The marshal would tell us we weren't keeping up with the group in front. Well duh - they were a 3some. Pace of play would have been so much quicker if it wasn't cart path only. It's a resort course and that's where they make their money. Why wouldn't they make it more enjoyable for all of us poor schmucks that pay for this place to operate and make it more difficult when the Pros play here??? This is my 3rd time playing and I've had the same experience every time. No more.
Play somewhere else and enjoy relaxed golf, not worth the money.
Fun
Course was great, is a fun course, not as difficult as might think, value not good other than saying you been there did that, harbor town the same, cart girls awesome, club house ls like a museum, very nice, staff friendly
Fantastic experience!
This has been my favorite course to watch the PGA play for as long as I can remember, and was my #1 course on my golf bucket list. I finally had the opportunity to play the Stadium Course, and it did not disappoint. While I wasn't a fan of the price for 18 holes ($250), you're really paying more for an experience rather than a round of golf.
This course demands very well placed tee shots. Anything that ends up in the rough can be crippling to your score. #16, #17, #18 are the bread and butter of the course, and are the most exciting 3 holes. On the day we played, they had the pins in position #3 aka Sunday Championship locations. Very difficult to go flag hunting.
After our round, we asked about a replay rate, and the staff was able to out us on the Valley course for $50 per person!
It was likely the only time I'll ever play Sawgrass, mostly due to the price ($250-$450), but I walked away with more memories after that round than any round of golf I've ever played. What a remarkable experience! An absolute must on any golfer's bucket list.
As far as the course, they had punched the greens and fairways 3 weeks prior to our arrival, but you couldn't tell. The fairways and greens were in pristine condition.
One of the best finishes in golf
There are obviously a lot of high hopes coming into a day at TPC Sawgrass...and the facility did not disappoint. The day starts with an impeccable clubhouse and a great practice facility. Like many golfers, I grew up playing the course a thousand times on video games before I finally made it to the track. The entire day is enjoyable, and you'd be hard pressed to find 3 better finishing holes. I made a classic bogey on 17...first tee shot in the water, then stiffed the next one. Go figure.
Worth it for any golfer to enjoy.
Worth Every Penny
What a birthday present! Terrific service, beautifully appointed facility from locker room to pro shop. Course was in superb condition and our fore caddie knew the course well and gave us top-notch advice. One of my best golf experiences to date.
Great course
I have had several chances to play the TPC Sawgrass but work always got in the way. After playing it in a Golf Channel AM Tour event, I was happy that I finally got to play. It is a great layout with a lot of variety in hole design and playability. You do not realize on tv how challenging a driving course this is....it is truly a "hit to a spot" course rather than "grip it and rip it". Of course the 17th and 18th are the highlight holes but there are many other memorable ones out there and a lot more variety of shots around the greens than you would imagine.
A great facility compliments the course and extremely friendly and helpful staff round out the experience. I know that it is pricey but it is worth the cost.....once.
Bucket list
One of those bucket list courses. Get a caddy and walk to soak in the history. Price was steep unless billed from hot deal. Must play!
Closing Remarks
The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass had always been on my bucklist and alas, I was given the chance to play it. From the moment you arrive at the clubhouse, it's an amazing feeling knowing one of the greatest tournaments is played here every year. The golf shop staff was extremely friendly and willing to help me make my purchase. The practice facility is phenomenal and allows you to hit about every shot you can imagine.
As for the course, most of the holes are extremely hard to recognize compared to what you see on TV. I believe the angles of the camera's on the towers don't give you a true perspective of the golf course. The holes are well designed and each hole has a uniqueness to it. You also don't realize how much undulation are on the greens.
The golf course conditions, tees, fairways, rough, and bunkers were in phenomenal condition....the greens, as we know, had a misapplication on them and some were not in the best of conditions. They have a talented maintenance crew and they left the greens a little fury to help stimulate some root growth for the grass to help repair some of the greens. They also aerified the bad portions of the greens to help them recover as well.
16, 17, and 18 are a dream to play and an experience I could never replicate.
Needs work
Should not have been open .Poor condition . !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! N
Course condition was not great
The course was a little torn up in spots. Word was that they were getting ready to replace the greens, which was good because some of them were not great. Still had a good time and the staff and other facilities were excellent.
TPC Sawgrass
Great course with a lot of history, but it was not worth almost $400.00 per round with tax! The only reason I plsted this course was because it was on my golf bucket list. If you are a decent golfer it was not a challenging as it looks on TV. 17 & 18 were certainly the best two holes on the course! I would not play it again for that money!
Should have said Under Construction
Very displeased with course and conditions and was never told it was under construction? Also thought it was peculiar that everyone was starting on 10. When we asked we never were told the truth straight out.
You gotta do it if you get the chance!
Loved this place, weather was cold but it was a blast.
Played the back tee's, actually was not as hard as I expected, I did have a good day off the tee and that was the key, if you drive it bad you will have a million here.
Good forecaddie really knew his stuff.
Never Disapoints
I love this place. It is the only thing I can do that I can actually compete against my hero's. Never mind that I am 46 and considered an average golfer. In any other sport, I cannot play against Roger Federer or defend Lebron James, but on the Stadium Course at hole 17, I can hit the same shot as all my hero's. I will hit pitching wedge just like they do, and it is my one chance to measure myself against them. I will not talk about all the other great holes, but for this one instance, I made birdie from where they hit their shots with the same club. Let's see how they do this coming May.
Discover just how far behind the pros your game really is
Dye's infamous Stadium is a must for any golfer who wants to appreciate just how tough the PLAYERS is. Every player's shortcomings, no matter your handicap, will be exposed in brutal fashion.
But an underrated part of the TPC facility, beyond the opulence and the challenge, is just how scenic the property is. The grounds are immaculately manicured, but more so, wildlife is abundant. On the 2nd hole, we noticed a beautiful, orange fox dashing up the cart path towards the clubhouse (I trust all went well…) and birdlife is magnificent (some ospreys are so big I feared that should I get to close to the water one would swoop by and snatch me by the mouth).
I must say, however, that there are a few operational aspects to the Stadium that make the non-touring pro feel a bit second rate. Carts are on paths all year here, which eliminates the round in my mind as a true, 5-star experience. You can't walk unless you take a caddie, even though that would probably help pace of play a great deal given the cart situation, and rates can swell north of $400 in peak season. Alas, we are merely visitors in the great Coloseum of golf.
World Class Course, World Class Experience
Played TPC Sawgrass with 3 friends and had a world-class experience. One of those is a member and had guest passes allowing us to play for cart fees. From the moment you walk up to the clubhouse you know it's going to be a special day. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. You can choose to have a forecaddie, but we didn't since several in our foursome know the course. The course was in great condition and we had a great day...well except for a few dunks into the lake at 17...
TV doesn't do this course justice. It's a beautiful venue that is a tough test. Long hitters will have an advantage here, shorter hitters will struggle to reach all of the par-4 greens in 2.
The practice facility is world class, the bar and restaurants available in the clubhouse are fantastic, the pro shop is large. The only downside is expect a long round, but really, it's TPC Sawgrass. Take the day and enjoy it!
JP
TPC is always an awesome visit. If you like to take your time warming up and enjoying the facilities the driving range, chipping green and putting green are outstanding. The course is great too! The pace of play can be hit or miss depending on the day but it is well worth the trade off.
Extremely disappointing
The only two positive statements, the staff was friendly and the greens were OK. The fairways and rough were in terrible condition for a course of this supposed stature. Although there were rangers, the pace of play was just below that of a snail. For the price charged one would be advised to drive down the road to Saint Augustine which offers many courses very much superior to this "pasture" at similar or lesser rates.
Excellent Round of Golf
great Course, nice Weather, friendly Staff, must play in Ponte Vedra
The Pride of the PGA Tour
Deane Beman—the PGA Tour's commissioner from '74 to '94—devised a plan to build a course that could create the kind of stadium atmosphere and drama the common sports fan is used to seeing at football, baseball or basketball games. Needless to say, Beman, with the help of Pete and Alice Dye, accomplished that mission. From Tiger's "Better than most" snake putt on the 17th green, Craig Perks needing one putt to finish eagle-birdie-par, or Hal Sutton's "Be the right club today!", the host of the "Fifth Major" has provided the golf fan some memorable moments. This is another case of paying a premium to play where the pros play, but like Pebble Beach, Pinehurst No. 2, or Kiawah's Ocean Course, these are bucket-list experiences for the avid amateur. The course itself is tight with plenty of twists and turns, but the only true forced carries are on the par 3s. As Alice Dye told me, you could almost putt your way from tee to green at the Stadium Course. It's especially fair, and can be fun, if you play to the tees and yardages that match your ability. When you get to 17, which is 5,000 square feet, with the back half of the putting surface acting as a bit of a backstop. All that being dais, play for the middle of the green. The Stadium Course gets almost 45,000 rounds per year and they pull close to 100,000 balls out of that lake...don't be one of them.
