Doug Schneider of West Palm Beach, Fla., and John Fahey of Port St.
Lucie, Fla., arrived at PGA Golf Club at 7 a.m., March 7, in an attempt
to make $1 million with just one swing of a golf club on The Dye Course.
The efforts of both players were videotaped for FOX Sports Net's "Player-2-Player" golf program, which will be viewed by more than 71 million U.S. households on Friday, March 23. Golf fans should consult their local cable listings. Both players made a valiant attempt to ace the par-3, 160-yard 16th hole while backed by a stiff cold breeze, but neither came close to the flagstick. Wayne Player, son of Hall of Famer Gary Player, hosts the program. Schneider, 29, competes on the nation's mini-tours while Fahey, 41, is a PGA Golf Club golf car fleet manager. They were selected to join a foursome including former BUY.com Tour member Hiroshi Matsuo, 31, of Jupiter, Fla., and Player, 40, the program host during its 13-week stint this year on FOX Sports Network. "I had a feeling that my boss was watching me closely when I took my swing," Fahey said. "I was thinking that if I made it, I might not have to report to work tomorrow."
Schneider, who missed in his attempt to earn a PGA Tour berth last
winter, said he enjoyed his first visit to The Dye Course. "This
is a great layout and you see the handiwork of Pete Dye everywhere,"
said Schneider. "It's a good test of golf."
Matsuo was making his first visit to The Dye Course and the PGA Learning Center, having already toured the Tom Fazio-designed North and South Courses at PGA Golf Club. "It's a wonderful facility," said Matsuo, who was a fully exempt BUY.com Tour member in 2000. "You can't ask for more in a golf facility. The Learning Center is where you can work on specific parts of your game. I plan to spend a lot of time there getting ready for my next try at Qualifying School." Player, who has been a professional for 20 years and competed in the British Open, praised the PGA golf experience. "These courses are interesting to play and have great visuals," said Player. "This is well worth the visit and you're mixing with a great group of people at the PGA Learning Center. We met Pete Draovich (personal trainer for Greg Norman) at the HealthSouth end of the PGA Learning Center and he is the best in health and fitness. I think The PGA has accomplished something very special and they will only go from strength to strength in the years to come." The $1 million ace promotion was insured through Media Wave Productions of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and myfantasygolf.com. |
